We are looking for Study participants who:
- · Are 18 years or older.
- · Reside in Ontario.
- · Have tested HIV-positive in the past year and had
their last HIV-negative result within two years of the positive result,
- OR
· have had an indeterminate HIV test followed by an
HIV-positive test in the past year.
Some HIV negative people are also participating
in the Study. They are selected to match the characteristics of HIV positive
participants already enrolled in the Study. If you are at least 18 years
old, live in Ontario and have had a negative HIV test within the past six
months you may be eligible to participate in Polaris. Please call 1-888-223-8264

Participants take part in an initial two-hour interview,
then one-hour interviews every six months. All information is confidential.
The interview can be done in person or over the phone. Participants living
outside Toronto do not have to travel for their interviews. During the interview,
we ask about sexual behaviour and drug use (if any), and relationships with
family, partners and friends. There are also questions about general health,
emotional health, quality of life, use of antiviral treatments, employment,
etc. The questions will vary at each interview. Participants will be paid
$50.00 for each interview they complete.
HIV-positive
participants will also see their doctor every three months for blood tests.
HIV negative participants are asked to have an HIV test every year.
Confidentiality is assured to all participants of the
Study. Interviews, questionnaires and other data collected will not be identified
with a name. All information collected will be stored in locked cabinets.
